🌱 How to Grow Scotch Brain

☀️Maximum Sun

8+ hours daily. Greenhouse strongly recommended for this superhot Chinense cross.

🌡️Temperature

25–35°C ideal. Both parent varieties are tropical Chinense — this hybrid inherits their heat requirement.

💧Watering

Consistent moisture throughout the long season. Excellent drainage essential — never waterlog superhots.

🌱Pot Size

20–25L minimum. A large, vigorous Chinense plant that produces better in bigger containers.

🧪Feeding

Weekly high-potassium tomato feed from first flower. Sustained nutrition throughout the long fruiting season.

✂️Overwintering

Essential in cooler climates — year-two plants fruit weeks or months earlier and more heavily.

🩺 Common Problems

Slow GerminationMinor

Cause: Superhot Chinense cross — inherits difficult germination from both parents

Fix: Heat mat at 30–35°C, sow January, allow 4–6 weeks, perlite/vermiculite mix

Blossom DropModerate

Cause: Temperature stress — above 35°C or below 18°C during flowering

Fix: Maintain stable conditions, shade afternoon sun, mist flowers in morning

Short UK SeasonModerate

Cause: Long-season Chinense hybrid in a short-season climate

Fix: Start January, greenhouse mandatory, overwinter for best year-two harvest

Spider MitesModerate

Cause: Hot dry greenhouse conditions in mid-summer

Fix: Increase humidity, neem oil spray weekly, introduce predatory mites
