Fungal
Black or Rust-Coloured Spots on Aloe Leaves
Commonly affects: Aloe vera (Aloe Vera)
Small black, brown, or rust-coloured raised or sunken spots appear scattered across leaf surfaces, sometimes called 'aloe rust'.
Potential Causes
- 1A fungal condition sometimes referred to as aloe rust, favoured by high humidity and overhead watering
- 2Poor air circulation prolonging leaf surface moisture
- 3Overcrowded plants restricting airflow
Solution Steps
- 1Remove severely affected leaves
- 2Improve air circulation around the plant
- 3Water at the base rather than overhead
- 4Apply a fungicide if the condition is spreading significantly, though it's often largely cosmetic and manageable with better care alone
Prevention Tip
Aloe rust is largely a cosmetic fungal issue driven by excess humidity and overhead watering â improving airflow and watering habits usually controls it.
