Angular Leaf Spot on Cucumber

Commonly affects: Cucumis sativus (Cucumber)

Small, angular, water-soaked spots bounded by leaf veins appear on foliage, sometimes with a milky bacterial ooze visible on the underside in humid conditions.

Potential Causes

  1. 1Pseudomonas syringae pv. lachrymans bacteria, spread by splashing water
  2. 2Overhead irrigation or rain keeping foliage wet
  3. 3Infected seed introducing the pathogen

Solution Steps

  1. 1Remove and destroy affected leaves promptly
  2. 2Water at the base only, avoiding any splash onto foliage
  3. 3Apply a copper-based bactericide as a preventive measure
  4. 4Rotate away from cucurbits in affected beds for 1-2 years

Prevention Tip

Angular leaf spot spreads almost entirely through water splash — switching to drip or base irrigation is the single most effective prevention.
