Leaf Spot on Kiwi Vines

Commonly affects: Actinidia deliciosa, A. chinensis (Kiwi)

Small, circular brown spots scatter across leaves, sometimes merging into larger dead patches in humid conditions, causing premature leaf drop.

Potential Causes

  1. 1Septoria or related leaf-spot fungi spread by splashing water
  2. 2Extended wet weather or overhead irrigation
  3. 3Fallen leaf debris left on the ground harbouring spores

Solution Steps

  1. 1Remove and destroy affected leaves promptly
  2. 2Clear fallen leaf debris from around the base of the vine, especially at season's end
  3. 3Water at the base rather than overhead
  4. 4Apply a copper-based fungicide if the problem recurs each season

Prevention Tip

Clearing fallen leaves at the end of each season removes the main overwintering source of leaf spot fungi.
