Anthurium vs Philodendron
Anthurium and Philodendron are both aroids with heart-shaped leaves, and in a garden centre they can look almost interchangeable. The difference that matters is what you get for your effort: Anthurium rewards you with waxy red spathes for months at a time, but demands humidity and precise watering. Philodendron gives you foliage, and forgives almost everything.

The Verdict
Choose Philodendron unless you specifically want flowers. It tolerates lower light, drier air, and irregular watering, and it grows fast enough to feel rewarding in the first season. Anthurium is the better plant only if you can meet its humidity requirement β below about 60% you will spend your time trimming brown tips instead of enjoying the blooms.
