Fungal Leaf Spot on Succulents

Commonly affects: Various succulents (Crassulaceae, Aizoaceae, and others)

Small, circular, discoloured spots appear on leaves, sometimes with a slightly sunken or dry texture, distinct from pest damage.

Potential Causes

  1. 1Various fungal pathogens favoured by excess moisture on leaf surfaces
  2. 2Overhead watering leaving water sitting on leaves
  3. 3Poor air circulation prolonging leaf wetness

Solution Steps

  1. 1Remove and destroy affected leaves
  2. 2Water at the base, avoiding wetting the foliage
  3. 3Improve air circulation around the plant
  4. 4Apply a fungicide if the problem is spreading significantly

Prevention Tip

Avoiding overhead watering is the single most effective prevention for the fungal leaf spots that occasionally affect succulents.
