Slow or No Growth in Aloe Vera

The plant shows minimal or no new growth over an extended period, even during what should be its active growing season.
Potential Causes
- 1Insufficient light — Aloe needs bright light to grow vigorously
- 2Being outside its natural growing season (many aloes slow down in winter)
- 3Nutrient-depleted soil that hasn't been fed in a long time
- 4Root-bound conditions restricting further growth
Solution Steps
- 1Ensure the plant receives bright light, ideally with some direct sun, during the active growing season
- 2Don't expect much growth during winter — this is normal, not a problem
- 3Feed with a diluted cactus/succulent fertiliser during the growing season only
- 4Repot if roots are visibly circling and root-bound
Prevention Tip
Aloe naturally slows or pauses growth in winter regardless of care — expecting active growth outside the growing season leads to unnecessary worry.
