Watering
Wrinkling and Shrivelling in Aloe Vera
Commonly affects: Aloe vera (Aloe Vera)
Leaves develop visible wrinkles or a shrunken, deflated appearance, drawing on the plant's internal water reserves faster than they're replenished.
Potential Causes
- 1Extended period without water beyond what the plant's stored reserves can sustain
- 2Root damage (from rot or repotting) limiting water uptake even when watering does occur
- 3Very fast-draining soil combined with infrequent watering
Solution Steps
- 1Water thoroughly, allowing water to soak the full root zone and drain through
- 2Resume a regular, if still infrequent, watering rhythm
- 3Check root health if wrinkling persists despite watering, since root damage may be the underlying cause
Prevention Tip
Aloe signals thirst clearly through wrinkled leaves â a thorough watering usually plumps them back up within a day or two if roots are healthy.
