Corking on Cactus Stems

The base or lower portion of the cactus develops a brown, rough, bark-like texture that spreads upward over time.
Potential Causes
- 1Natural aging â corking is simply how cacti develop woody, bark-like tissue at their base as they mature, similar to how tree trunks develop bark
- 2Sometimes accelerated by stress such as underwatering, sunburn, or root damage, but the process itself is normal

- 1No treatment needed for corking that matches the plant's normal aging pattern at the base
