Drooping Leaves on Colocasia
Commonly affects: Colocasia esculenta (Taro / Elephant Ear)
Large leaves droop or hang limply, sometimes recovering by evening or after watering, sometimes not.
Potential Causes
- 1Underwatering â unusual for most houseplants but common for Colocasia, since it needs far more frequent watering than typical houseplants and dries out poorly
- 2Heat stress during very hot weather causing temporary drooping that recovers as temperatures cool

Solution Steps
- 1Increase watering frequency significantly, checking that soil never fully dries out
- 2Provide some afternoon shade during extreme heat if grown outdoors in full sun
- 3Check root health if drooping persists despite consistently moist soil, since this may point to rot instead
- 4Mist leaves or increase humidity to reduce water loss during hot weather
Prevention Tip
Colocasia's large leaves lose water quickly, and unlike many houseplants, underwatering rather than overwatering is often the actual cause of drooping.
