Powdery Mildew on Passion Fruit
Commonly affects: Passiflora edulis (Passion Fruit)
A white powdery coating develops on leaf surfaces, usually in humid conditions with poor airflow, weakening affected leaves over time.
Potential Causes
- 1Fungal spores favoured by humidity and dense canopy growth
- 2Overcrowded vines on the trellis limiting air circulation
- 3Shaded, still growing conditions
Solution Steps
- 1Prune to improve airflow through the canopy
- 2Apply a sulphur or potassium bicarbonate fungicide at first signs
- 3Water at the base rather than overhead
- 4Remove heavily affected leaves
Prevention Tip
Training the vine with good spacing on its trellis from the start prevents the dense, humid microclimate powdery mildew needs.
