Powdery Mildew on Chili Pepper Leaves
Commonly affects: Capsicum annuum, Capsicum chinense (Chili Pepper)
A white to grey powdery coating appears on the upper surface of leaves, starting as small circular patches that expand and merge. Affected leaves may yellow and drop prematurely, weakening the overall plant.
Potential Causes
- 1High humidity combined with poor air circulation around dense foliage
- 2Overcrowded plants restricting airflow between them
- 3Overhead watering keeping foliage damp for extended periods
Solution Steps
- 1Remove and destroy heavily affected leaves to reduce spore load.
- 2Improve airflow by spacing plants further apart or thinning dense growth.
- 3Water at the base of the plant rather than overhead to keep foliage dry.
- 4Apply a potassium bicarbonate or sulphur-based fungicide at the first sign of white patches.
