Rosemary Not Flowering

The plant grows healthy foliage but produces few or no of its characteristic small blue-purple flowers, even though it appears otherwise vigorous and well established.
Potential Causes
- 1Insufficient light, since rosemary needs strong, direct sun to flower reliably
- 2Over-fertilising with nitrogen, which encourages leafy growth over flowering
- 3Young plants not yet mature enough to flower � some varieties take a full season or two
- 4Heavy or mistimed pruning removing flower buds before they open
Solution Steps
- 1Ensure the plant receives at least 6 hours of direct sun daily, since flowering is closely tied to light intensity.
- 2Reduce nitrogen feeding, since rosemary flowers more reliably under slightly leaner conditions than lush, heavily-fed growth allows.
- 3Be patient with young plants � flowering often improves significantly in a plant's second or third year.
- 4Avoid pruning right before the natural flowering period (typically late winter to spring for many varieties).
