Powdery Mildew on Succulent Leaves
Commonly affects: Various succulents (Crassulaceae, Aizoaceae, and others)
A white powdery coating develops on leaf surfaces, particularly in humid conditions with poor airflow.
Potential Causes
- 1Fungal spores favoured by humidity and still, poorly-ventilated conditions
- 2Overcrowded plantings restricting airflow
- 3Overhead watering keeping leaves damp
Solution Steps
- 1Remove heavily affected leaves
- 2Improve airflow around the plant
- 3Water at the base rather than overhead
- 4Apply a sulphur-based fungicide at first signs if the problem persists
Prevention Tip
Succulents generally prefer drier air than most houseplants â good airflow and base watering usually prevent powdery mildew from establishing.
