Curling Leaflets on ZZ Plant
Commonly affects: Zamioculcas zamiifolia (ZZ Plant)
Leaflets curl or fold along their length rather than lying flat, sometimes combined with a duller colour.
Potential Causes
- 1Underwatering beyond what even this drought-tolerant plant can handle, after an extremely long dry period
- 2Low humidity in very dry indoor air, though ZZ Plant is generally tolerant of this
- 3Root or rhizome stress limiting water uptake
Solution Steps
- 1Water thoroughly if soil has been completely dry for an extended period, allowing water to soak the full root zone
- 2Check rhizome health if curling persists despite watering, since underlying rot can also cause this
- 3Be patient, since new growth typically emerges normally once the underlying issue is corrected
Prevention Tip
Even a plant this drought-tolerant eventually shows stress if genuinely neglected for too long â occasional watering is still needed, just far less often than most houseplants.
