Sudden Vine Collapse in Cucumber Plants

A healthy-looking vine wilts and collapses within a day or two, sometimes with no obvious warning signs beforehand.
Potential Causes
- 1Bacterial wilt spread by cucumber beetle feeding
- 2Root rot from waterlogged soil after heavy rain
- 3Squash vine borer damage, though less common on cucumber than on squash and pumpkin
Solution Steps
- 1Cut a wilted stem and check for sticky bacterial ooze when the cut ends are pulled apart, indicating bacterial wilt
- 2Check soil drainage and root health if no bacterial symptoms are present
- 3Inspect the stem base for pest entry holes
- 4Remove and destroy vines confirmed to have bacterial wilt, since there's no cure
