A white powdery coating spreads across leaf surfaces and stems, starting as small circular patches that merge into larger areas. Heavily affected leaves yellow, dry out, and die back, reducing the plant's ability to size up fruit.
⚠ CriticalPumpkin — Downy Mildew on Pumpkin
Yellow, angular patches bounded by leaf veins appear on the upper leaf surface, with a grey-purple fuzzy growth on the underside directly beneath. Unlike powdery mildew, lesions are angular rather than circular and follow the leaf's vein pattern.
⚠ CriticalPumpkin — Bacterial Wilt on Pumpkin Vines
Individual leaves wilt during the day and may partially recover at night at first, but the whole vine collapses within days as the disease progresses. Cutting a wilted stem and pressing the cut ends together produces a sticky, stringy bacterial ooze when slowly pulled apart.
⚠ CriticalPumpkin — Squash Vine Borer Damage
A single vine wilts suddenly and severely while the rest of the plant looks fine, often with a small hole and sawdust-like frass visible near the base of the affected vine. Cutting the stem open reveals a fat white-cream larva tunnelling through the tissue.
⚠ CriticalPumpkin — Cucumber Beetles on Pumpkin
Small yellow-and-black striped or spotted beetles feed on leaves, stems, and flowers, leaving ragged holes and scarring. Seedlings can be killed outright by heavy feeding, and beetles carry bacterial wilt between plants.

Leaves develop yellow speckling that turns brown and crispy, sometimes wilting entirely on affected sections of vine. Clusters of bronze-coloured eggs are visible on the underside of leaves, and grey-brown adult bugs cluster at the base of plants.

A sunken, dark, leathery patch develops on the blossom end of developing fruit — the end opposite the stem — while the rest of the pumpkin looks otherwise healthy.

The vine produces plenty of flowers, but they wither and drop without developing into fruit, or tiny fruit start to form and then shrivel and rot within days of the flower closing.

A healthy-looking vine wilts and collapses within a day or two, often with no obvious warning signs beforehand. The rest of the plant may remain fine if the damage is isolated to one section.

Cracks appear on the pumpkin's skin, sometimes shallow and cosmetic, other times deep enough to expose the flesh underneath, typically appearing during rapid growth phases.

A pale, bleached, or leathery patch develops on the side of the fruit facing direct sun, especially after sudden loss of shading foliage from disease, pruning, or wind damage.

Seedlings or young vines grow very slowly, with small leaves and minimal vine extension compared to expected growth for their age, even under seemingly adequate conditions.
