Yellowing Leaves on Mint
Commonly affects: Mentha spicata, Mentha piperita (Mint)
Leaves turn pale yellow, often starting with older, lower foliage while newer growth stays green. In containers, this is frequently accompanied by generally slower growth than expected.
Potential Causes
- 1Nutrient depletion in container-grown mint that hasn't been fed or repotted recently
- 2Overwatering causing root stress and reduced nutrient uptake
- 3Insufficient light, especially for indoor-grown mint in a dim location
Solution Steps
- 1Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength if the plant hasn't been fed in several weeks.
- 2Check that the pot drains well and isn't sitting in standing water.
- 3Move the plant to a brighter location � mint prefers at least 4�6 hours of good light daily, even indoors.
- 4Repot into fresh potting mix if the current soil is old and depleted.
Prevention Tip
Feed container-grown mint every 3�4 weeks during active growth, since its vigorous spreading habit uses up soil nutrients quickly.
