Peace Lily leaves and stems lose rigidity and droop dramatically — petioles curve downward and leaf blades hang limply parallel to the pot. This is one of the most recognisable distress signals in houseplants. Peace Lilies droop both from underwatering (low turgor pressure in cells) and from advanced root rot (inability to transport water even when the soil is moist). Distinguishing between the two before watering is critical: watering a root-rotted plant accelerates its decline.
